Operation Thunderjoy

Hi SRCC Members!

This is our 9th year of Operation Thunderjoy at Travis Heights Elementary School! As a parent volunteer to make Operation Thunderjoy happen every year, we are awe of the support our at need community receives for the holidays, it means so much. We know with Operation Thunderjoy is anonymous which can make wondering what impact it really has, but we see it and feel it from the families that are on the receiving end, it makes such a huge impact in their lives.

Our goal is to spread joy to THES families in need around the holidays. Over the past several years the generosity of our community has helped us provide clothes and gifts for hundreds of children and their families! Our parent support specialist, Sura, wishes she could share and pass on all the hugs and thank yous she has received from the families we support.Operation Thunderjoy also reminds us and our children that the true spirit of the season is about giving, not getting.

THES is an innovative, inclusive, and incredibly sweet neighborhood school for 500 students, over 60% of whom live below the poverty line. Home to one of the largest refugee and immigrant populations in Austin ISD, we are rich in culture, but many of our families lack basic necessities.

Thanks to the support of our school community and businesses, we’ve been able to provide essential items like clothing, shoes, and toys, as well as life-changing necessities such as prescription glasses, bedding, kitchenware and groceries. Your generosity has not only brought joy to these families but has also provided them with the tools they need to thrive.

If you’d like the opportunity to spread joy for the 2024 holiday season, you can sign up here. Our goal this year is to help at least 50 families.

We’re so thankful for Thunderjoy makers like you who help bring smiles and hope to our community.
