Fulmore Middle School students received statewide recognition for their newspaper and yearbook work at the Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC) held at UT this past weekend.
Students participated in the conference as well as attended the award ceremonies. Entering in twenty-four out of the total possible twenty-seven newspaper categories, Fulmore students received a total of forty individual achievement awards—twelve Gold medals, sixteen Silver medals, seven Bronze medals, and five Honorable Mentions.
The 2010 Fulmore Middle School Yearbook was recognized in fifteen different yearbook categories, with a total of thirty-two individual achievement awards (two Gold medals, eight Silver medals, fourteen Bronze medals, and eight Honorable Mentions.)
The competition at ILPC draws journalism students from all over Texas, with the majority of competitors drawing from high schools. Competition is offered in newspaper (both print and web-based), yearbook, broadcast and documentary competitions. The individual achievement award winners represent the nation’s finest scholastic journalism students.
The Fulmore Newspaper, The Falcon Cry, and 2010 Yearbook Receive Special Recognition
In addition, the Fulmore newspaper and the 2010 yearbook were given the Award of Distinguished Merit, ILPC’s highest rating. And, of those campuses receiving the honor of Distinguished Merit, Fulmore was selected to receive the prestigious Silver Star Award for Newspapers.
Recipients of the Star Awards represent the top 10% of newspaper and yearbook programs in the State of Texas. A select few of the schools nominated for Distinguished Merit ever receive a Star Award. Fulmore has received the prestigious Star Award in either newspaper or yearbook (or both) every year for the last twenty years. Under the leadership of journalism advisor Morgan Goldbarth, Fulmore continues to exemplify exceptional journalism. Many Fulmore students contributed to the overall success at ILPC, including students in Journalism 2.
