SRCC: help with items or donations for Foundation Community in 78704

welcomeFoundation Communities’ new  living center, Bluebonnet Studios, (located at 2301 S. Lamar) opens  in October and will provide 107 affordable housing units to low income families and individuals. A percentage of residents are formerly homeless.  If you are not familiar with Foundation Communities,  many view them as THE most effective affordable housing program in Austin, if not the country, because they provide beautiful, sustainable housing and link the residents with much needed services to assist them in making a successful transition to home and work.  Several of our SRCC members including Andy Cantu, Marilyn Norton and others spoke favorably of their support for Foundation Communities. Click here for  more information on Foundation Communities.

Nearby neighborhoods are pitching in by creating Welcome Baskets for new residents. Baskets are estimated to cost @$200 each and are filled with items to help these folks make a new start. Rosalyn Clifton (SRCC member) volunteered to coordinate this effort for our neighborhood.  Note!  Bouldin Creek neighborhood has committed funds for 5 baskets!

Here is the list of items needed: full-sized bedding, pillows, dishes, toilet paper , shower curtains, laundry baskets, pots and pans, towels etc.. You can help make baskets, donate items or donate money. Items should  be new or in excellent condition, though I’m sure we could find a use for lightly used items as well.

You can drop items or checks  at 1227A Hillside Avenue OR BRING ITEMS OR CHECKS MONDAY OCTOBER  3  TO OUR NEXT SRCC MEETING AT LIFEINTHECITY CHURCH! Checks can be made out to Rosalyn Clifton. To help assemble baskets,  give a monetary donation, or if you have questions contact: email  rosalynclifton@gmail.com
