I-35 at Slaughter Creek closing for bridge demolition

Beginning the fourth weekend of June, I-35 at the Slaughter Creek overpass will close to demolish the old bridge and prepare for its replacement.

Mainlane traffic will be detoured to the frontage roads in both directions at exit 226 while crews demolish the nearly 60-year-old structure.

The closure will run from 11 p.m. until 10 a.m. on both Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25, weather permitting.

The Slaughter Creek overpass will not be accessible for about a year, while a new, wider bridge is built, including a southbound-to-northbound turnaround. The project’s goal is to improve mobility and enhance safety along I-35.

More information about the overpass closure is available at http://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/media-center/local-news/austin/021-2016.html. Project details are available on the My35.org website at http://www.my35.org/capital/projects/travis/slaughtercreek-overpass.htm.
